I shot Melissa for Outside in mid March, a few days before she left for Everest. She was in the news this week for breaking up a fight on the mountain between foreign climbers and a group of Sherpas. She is a total badass, but having talked with her about her relationship with different sherpas, I imagine that she is cringing at the negative and one sided story coming off the mountain. And there is a lot of wisdom in what she wrote about the incident on her blog: ”I am sad for the events of the last week. I am hopeful that the adventure ahead will be one of collaboration, support and rebuilding the relationship of trust between everyone who has chosen to be here.”
